Description

The Yolo Wonder Pepper is an improved California Wonder variety.  This type is 4.5 inches by 4 inches, with 3 or 4 lobed, glossy peppers.  The peppers will form as large, sturdy plants with good foliage cover.  These green peppers turn red at full maturity.  As a favorite garden vegetable, peppers are eaten raw or cooked, as well as served in salads, stews, or casseroles. Yolo Wonder’s large, uniform shape also makes it ideal for stuffing. Peppers can be harvested green or left on the vine to mature to bright red and very sweet.  The turnaround from planting to harvest for the Wonder pepper is 75 days.

Peppers are members of the genus Capsicum. The first wild Capsicums originated in eastern Bolivia and southern Brazil. Birds then spread the seed from these peppers across the Americas. Members of Christopher Columbus’ crew collected pepper plants and seeds to bring back to Europe. Wrongly believing the plants to be related to black pepper (Piper nigrum), Columbus gave them their common name “pepper.” Peppers quickly grew in popularity and were spread across the world through colonial trade networks.
